Long Gamma Ray Bursts from Quark Stars

چکیده

— If strange quark matter (SQM) is the true ground state of hadronic matter, then conversion of neutron stars (NS) into quark stars (QS) could release some 10 erg. We describe a scenario of burning of a NS into a hot, differentially rotating QS. Emission of released non-baryonic energy through the QS surface is discussed. The rôle of magnetobuoyancy of SQM is mentioned. The outflow of γee lasting for up to ∼ 1000 s could be at the origin of long GRBs. Advantages of hot, differentially rotating QS as an inner engine of long GRBs are reviewed.

Luminosity of a quark - star undergoing torsional oscillations and the problem of γ - ray bursts

Aims. We discuss whether the process of winding-up the magnetic field by differential rotation in a newborn quark-star can cause an energy emission rate high enough and lasting sufficiently long to explain long gamma ray bursts. Methods. Within the magneto-hydrodynamics, we study the torsional oscillations and the extraction of energy from a newborn , hot, differentially rotating quark-star. Re...

Gamma-Ray Bursts from quark stars

Long gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are believed to be related to the explosion of powerful supernovae type Ic, which have been stripped of their hydrogen and helium envelopes, and are rapidly rotating. There appear to be two types of these explosions: those which are approximately spherical (GRB980425/1998bw), and which are associated with weak bursts, and the classical GRBs which generate ultra-rela...

X - Ray Flares of Gamma - Ray Bursts : Quakes of Solid

We propose a star-quake model to understand X-ray flares of both long and short Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) in a solid quark star regime. Two kinds of central engines for GRBs are available if pulsar-like stars are actually (solid) quark stars, i.e., the SNE-type GRBs and the SGR-type GRBs. It is found that a quark star could be solidified about 10 to 10 s later after its birth if the critical temp...

Gamma Ray Bursts and the transition to Quark Matter in Compact Stars

We discuss a model for long Gamma-Ray-Bursts in which the central engine is associated with the conversion process of a metastable hadronic star into a star containing quark matter. We analyze also the observational signatures of the model, i.e. the Supernova-GRB temporal connection and the existence of long quiescent times in the temporal structure of Gamma-Ray-Bursts. Several observations ind...

Gamma Ray Bursts from delayed collapse of neutron stars to quark matter stars

We propose a model to explain how a Gamma Rays Burst can take place days or years after a supernova explosion. Our model is based on the conversion of a pure hadronic star (neutron star) into a star made at least in part of deconfined quark matter. The conversion process can be delayed if the surface tension at the interface between hadronic and deconfined-quark-matter phases is taken into acco...

Quark Stars as inner engines for Gamma Ray Bursts?

A model for Gamma ray bursts inner engine based on quark stars (speculated to exist in nature) is presented. We describe how and why these objects might constitute new candidates for GRB inner engines. At the heart of the model is the onset of exotic phases of quark matter at the surface of such stars, in particular the 2-flavor color superconductivity. A novel feature of such a phase is the ge...
